Cleaning and care of PETg

  Dust can particularly settle at the surface of the PETg sheets by electrostatic charge. Dusty surfaces can be simply washed with a watery, soft cloth or a sponge in combination with warm water admixed with dish-liquid. PETg may never be cleaned dryly with a cloth.

Fatty and oily dirt can be cleaned simply and fast with ethanol or isopropanol, because these solvents do not corrode PETg. Spray colours and graffiti can be removed by solvent cleaners or thinners without acetone and benzol.

Cleaning of PMMA

  EEEsdfjkjdfExtruded acrylic glass as well as polycarbonade has a pore-free flat surface by nature due to the production procedure which is also preserved after many years exposure. The dirt can hardly stick at the surface. Therefore rain can wash up dirt easily, also in connection with the condensation forming often at night.

Therefore PMMA is extensive self-cleaning.

Adhesive dirt can stuck by special circumstances. This dirt can be removed easily with water and a commercial sponge, a fleece of microfibre, scrubbing brush with soft bristles or if procurable also with a high-pressure cleaner. Scratches and matt places of PMMA sheets can be removed by polishing.

1. For surface cleaning are suited:

•     pure water
•     mild soap sud

2. In tenacious cases:

• water with light amphophil, neutral or light alkaline dish liquids or laundry detergents
• Pril, palm olive, Sogrotan up to 2%, Sidolin, soda lotion, formalin lotion

3. Very fatty or oil-smeared surface:

•     benzine free from aromatic compounds, e.g. petroleum spirit, Petroläther
•     alcohols: e.g. ethyl alcohol (ethanol), isopropanol

Important!!! Abrasive cleaning supplies violate the surface, thus you should not use them. Graffitis can be removed with paintbrush cleaning supplies, e.g., "Krautol-paintbrush cleaner 3040" or "Vandal 705" and graffiti remover "Graffitex 3". “Graffitex 3” is recommended by the manufacturer especially for acrylic glass. Attention: The namend cleaning supplies should only be used for zero-potential sheets. Commercial plastic cleaners as well as paint thinner could etch PMMA, therefore they must be checked before usage. This may not be the case. Due to the multitude of cleaning supplies the user should choose the right one on his own responsibility because recipe changes and differences of batches put recommendations of manufacturers into question.
